Benton County Sheriff's Office announces dedication of memorial highway to fallen detective

A stretch of road in Benton County has been named Detective Paul Newell Memorial Highway in honor of a fallen detective.

The Benton County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) announced today that it has dedicated a memorial highway to a fallen detective.

A post from BCSO on March 21 said that a stretch of road has been dubbed Detective Paul Newell Memorial Highway.

Newell, 51, of Gravette, was killed in a crash on SE Walton Blvd. near Interstate 49 while escorting the Wreaths Across America procession through Bentonville on Dec. 17, 2022.

BCSO said the detective had been with the agency since December 1998, serving multiple roles in his 24 years of service there.

"Today, we pay tribute to the incredible service and sacrifice of Detective Paul Newell. In recognition of his dedication, bravery, and unwavering commitment to keeping our community safe, we are proud to announce the dedication of the Detective Paul Newell Memorial Highway," BCSO's post said.
