DANVILLE — Yell County Judge Mark Thone read a proclamation that declared the county became a Purple Heart county during its recent meeting.

Thone said he had worked with the Military Order of the Purple Heart for a few weeks to do the necessary requirements to become a Purple Heart county. The proclamation stated the Purple Heart is presented to soldiers who are either wounded or killed in combat or perform their duty in their homeland.

Carden Ferguson, Jim Frye and Wayne Ireland of the Fort Smith chapter of the Military Order of the Purple Heart attended the quorum court meeting and presented Thone with a plaque recognizing Yell County as another Purple Heart county in Arkansas.

Thone said signs will be posted on all highways coming into Yell County that designated the county as a Purple Heart county. READ MORE.
