Washington County officials discuss jail expansion


Possible designs would incorporate pod, dorm concepts

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ark. (KNWA) -- The Washington County Quorum Court is taking on the issue of jail expansion.

The court's Jail, Law Enforcement, Courts Committee met Monday at the Washington County Courthouse earlier to discuss what kind of expansion is necessary to keep up with the growing jail population.

An architect showed a design that incorporates a pod concept which can hold 250 prisoners per pod.

A dorm concept was also discussed.

How much it could cost and whether a bond should be considered down the road was also discussed.
